Description
Noah's Ark is one of the most famous stories in the Bible, told in the book of Genesis, chapters 6-9
It is a religious account, rich in symbolic meaning, but also often subject to cultural and historical interpretations
According to the biblical account, humanity had become wicked, and God decided to send a great flood to purify the Earth
Only Noah, considered righteous and blameless, was chosen by God to be saved, along with his family
God commanded Noah to build an ark, a gigantic vessel, according to precise instructions
Characteristics of the Ark (according to the Bible)
Material: cypress wood (or "gopher", according to some translations)
Measurements: 300 cubits long, 50 wide, 30 high (Approximately 135 m x 22.5 m x 13.5 m)
It had three decks, a side door, and a window on the roof
Noah brought his family (eight people in total: Noah, his wife, his three sons, and their wives), a pair of every animal species (one male and one female), according to one version
In another part of the text, it speaks of seven pairs of clean animals and one pair of unclean ones
It rained for 40 days and 40 nights, the waters covered the earth for 150 days
After the waters receded, the ark rested on the mountains of Ararat
