Description

I downloaded the BB 3D Garage Harbor Freight Mini Toolbox Cart and the Gilded_Dragon Harbor Freight Mini Tool Box Shelf to convert my HF US General mini toolbox to a mini toolbox service cart.      To make the cart a little more authentic I wanted to add a side tray, handle, and smaller tray to better simulate the Harbor Freight Service carts.

The Gilded Dragon tray was almost perfect, but didn't quite fit this specific tool cart model.   I modified the support brackets to be closer together to fit the BB 3D Garage Toolbox cart.   The changes also allow the side shelf to be printed with significantly less supports  (see the slicer screen shot).    This file should be printed with a brim and with tree supports enabled.

I also created tool cart side handle.  3MF files for a 1 color and 2 color version are available.   The ends of the handle are a different color in the 2 color version, allowing a better match to the real Harbor Freight two color handles.   No supports are needed, but I recommend using a brim.

The third piece is a small tray with slots for up to four (4) 8mm x 3 mm magnets, to attach the tray to the side of the mini toolbox.    The slots are slightly large, so please glue the magnets in place.   Two magnets are adequate, four will make the tray “snap ” into place.    If you don't have magnets, double stick tape will work.

I printed from PLA using 0.16mm Balanced strenght settings in Bambu Slicer.   PETG, ASA, ABS, etc all should work.   These parts, and the linked above designs will also work with Lowes Kobalt mini toolboxes.

NOTE

The front edge of the top tray of some mini tool boxes a lip along the inside edge of the top tray.  The large tray and handle posted here won't fit in this purple box.    See screen shot below.   If you have a box like this, reduce the width by about 2% in slicer so the parts will accomodate this lip.

I've used 1" casters purchased from Amazon, have used 3 brands so far

This is such a ridiculous project, and I couldn't be more happy with it. Great job on the design. Everything printed with minimal support and turned out great and sturdy. I had some slight issues with droopy overhangs on the cross beams on the underside of the tray, but that's on me. Keep the overhang speeds low and it'll turn out just fine.

I very much apprecaite the picture. Very cool. Thanks for the comments on the cross beams. I don't think the are really necessary, I'm going to look at removing them. I printed out a couple of these and gave to employees at my store, They were surpisingly pleased. Apprarently big mini tool box fans also. Did you find some locking casters?

Can you share your file, the one in the description is to large for my printer, I need to shorten the upper part or remove like you did.

Mine is the one the designer uploaded, the only thing I modified was cutting off the bracket that holds it to the lip and added magnets to the handle so I could shut the lid.

The small tray with magnets has two small holes on the front edge. Not sure what they're for, but they do mess up a nice smooth front face if they are an artifact. One on each side of the front face. Other than that, thanks for posting your design.

Very sorry. Some of the mini toolbox have the folded over front edge as shown in the pic You need to reduce the width of the shelf by about 2% for it to fit those. Mentioned in the text of the listing. If you download the separate STL file, it has the correct width.

I wanted to share what I ended up doing with this. I remixed the model to work with the purple Harbor Freight mini toolbox, since that one has a front lip that throws off the fit. I added about 3 mm of spacing so the inserts snap in the way they should. You can see in the photos — everything sits flush now. I also tweaked the handle so the end caps print separately. You just glue them on afterward, and it gives you a cleaner two-color look without wasting filament. Even though I built this around the purple box, the handle works with the other colors too. Figured I’d share in case anyone else ran into the same thing.

Good tip i have H2D, so two color prints have no waste, but most don't have that. You don't have to print two color, but it seems to help the look more than you'd expect.
