Description

Revive that legendary Vintage Schumacher Rascal!!

This is a custom designed Nitro to Brushless Conversion / Motor mount and Gearbox housing for a Schumacher Rascal Micro Nitro RC Car.

 

This should be printed in at least PETG as PLA will either melt when the motor gets warm or smash on first impact. 
 

Straight forward conversion; 

  • remove the existing nitro engine (4 bottom plate screws) 
  • remove nitro brake (4 screws) and 61T Spur
  • remove throttle/brake servo (optionally print my top-deck to save more  space)
  • Install my motor plate to the 4 holes that the brake was screwed.
  • Install 11x4x5 (High-Speed sealed) bearing on layshaft, and press into motor plate. (check layshaft spins freely)
  • Re-install stock Spur (don't forget the locking pin)
  • Install motor and pinion, adjusting the mesh so there is a little backlash.
  • Add your ESC (this should fit nicely on the chassis under the motor)
  • Enjoy!
  • Optional (TBC) - Top-deck to reposition steering motor
  • Optional (TBC) - Battery box for shorty 2s packs

The gear I have chosen is what I had lying around and I think its pretty much perfect as is;

  • LC Racing L6041 4850kV Motor 28/2938) / Tenshock
  • 18T 32DP Pinion, 3.175mm shaft. 
  • 35A (Surpass Hobby ESC) 

Using the above set-up I think its geared absolutely spot on, haven't done a speed test, but I estimate it tops 40+mph, and has awesome acceleration (way better than the stock Nitro!).  Have tested at least 10 batteries now and given it a fair beating - everything is still solid and the mesh is as it was. The motor hasn't broken a sweat at all and remains cool to touch after a couple of hot 130C 2s runs with no break between.

 

Please note, that the above is subjective - if you pick a different motor / setup then your mileage may vary. I think I could probably go up a couple more teeth but risk the motor getting warmer than the PETG I've used can cope with. 

 

Requires the following hardware:

 

4x M3 x 12 (sourced from original nitro engine / brake mount)

8x M3 x 10.

2x M2.5/M3/M3.5 x 8-10mm (motor dependant)

1x 11mm x 5mm x 4mm (OD x ID x Height) Sealed and High Speed bearing.

2838 / 29xx Brushless Motor and ESC Combo (your choice here but see above for my set up as guidance).
