Introducing my Spiral Bowl Collection

My goal was to create something that is nice to look at and practical for everyday use that lends itself to 3d printing. These bowls were designed to be a centrepiece, with an intricate lattice that is lightweight, functional, and surprisingly durable.

My Design Process

The main challenge was creating a continuous loop effect that didn't intersect. wanting it to be more basket like rather than just a criss crossing pattern, this one wraps arounds. The pattern that lends itself to 3d printing quite well.

Key Features

  • Elegant Spiral Design: A modern, minimalist look that complements any kitchen counter and allows fruit and veg to breathe.
  • 100% Support-Free Print: Despite its complex appearance, this model is designed to print perfectly with no supports needed.
  • Durable & Flexible: The unique wire structure can absorb impacts, making it very durable.
  • Functional Size: At 200mm wide, it's the perfect size for holding fruit, veg, or other household items.

Printing Tips

This is a very straightforward print, but note that the intricate detail means it does take a little longer to print.

  • Material: Any standard PLA works great. The samples were printed with Bambu PLA - CF Black, which gives it a fantastic, premium finish.
  • Material Usage: Approximately 120 grams.
  • Print Time: Around 9 hours, as it's a large, detailed piece.
  • Settings: No special settings are required! I used the default 0.2mm profile in Bambu Studio.

Conclusion

I'm happy with how this one turned out. It's a great example of how 3D printing can be used to create beautiful and functional objects for our homes. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed designing it.
