Inspired by various other auto-locking towel hangers on Makerworld, I designed my own. It is smaller than usual. I had a problem with the balls used in couple other hooks, they were coming off. This one is designed so that the ball can't come off the opening after assembly.

There are two version:
1. Double-sided Tape
Double-sided tape version has a slot for maximum 20mm wide tape (1 line of 15mm or 2 lines of 10mm also work). If you are using the tape version, I would highly recommend thick & transparent double-sided tape (sometimes has red lining) because foamy ones tend to leave residue: Link to the recommended double-sided tape.
2. Screw Mount
Screw mount will fit most small mounting screws that are lying around most homes. It has a 8mm diameter front opening, 4mm back diameter opening. So the head of your screw needs to be smaller than 8mm and the diameter of the body of the screw needs to be smaller than 4mm. If you like another version let me know.
Dimensions are: 28 × 70 × 34.8mm (width × height × depth)
It is optimized for using the towel while it's on the hanger as opposed to taking it off and putting it back each time. You can still take the towel out of the hanger however with relative ease. Because it consists of 3 separate parts, you can mix and match colors even without AMS. I've uploaded profiles for all pieces separately in addition to the whole assembly.
To use it, just insert the towel into the slot, pull it all the way up and release it. To get it out, pull the towel all the way up, and pull it to the side.
Assembly instructions:
1. Super glue the ball
2. Put the ball into the slot of the back side of the hanger.
3. Apply some super glue to the protrusion and the base of the protrusion.
4. Push the parts together.
5. If you picked the double-sided tape version, put double sided tape into the slot on the back. If you picked the screw mount version, test if the mount fits first. It should fit tightly and click, if it doesn't fit you can file the two small protrusions at the bottom of the adapter. Then you can mount the adapter onto the wall and slide the back part into it.
