Argentinosaurus was one of the largest known dinosaurs to have ever existed, belonging to the group of long-necked, plant-eating sauropods that dominated the Cretaceous landscapes of South America. It lived approximately 95 to 100 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous period, in what is now Patagonia, Argentina—a region that was then a warm, forested environment with lush vegetation and open floodplains suitable for such colossal herbivores.

This dinosaur was a titanosaur, a subgroup of sauropods distinguished by their wide stance, column-like limbs, and in some species, armored skin. Argentinosaurus stood out even among these giants. Based on the limited fossil material discovered—mainly vertebrae, ribs, and parts of the pelvis—it is estimated to have reached a length of around 30 to 35 metres (98 to 115 feet) and possibly weighed between 60 and 100 tonnes, though exact figures remain debated due to the fragmentary nature of the remains. Its body was massive and barrel-shaped, supported by thick, pillar-like legs that bore the immense weight of its bulk. The long neck, composed of elongated vertebrae, allowed it to reach high vegetation, while the tail, equally long and muscular, provided balance and stability.
