Description
Guangdong Chebaling National Nature Reserve topographic model, a high-end tourist souvenir. Print it and consider you've been here

Guangdong Chebaling National Nature Reserve, one of 36 World Biosphere Reserves in China, where Lao Du works, is located in Shixing County, Shaoguan City, Guangdong Province. The reserve is situated on the southern edge of the Nanling Mountains, covering over 7,000 hectares, which is about the size of two Yuexiu Districts in Guangzhou or Changning Districts in Shanghai. Its permanent population is about 1,000, even less than the number of people on one subway train during rush hour. It is truly a great place to enjoy nature and breathe fresh air.

The reserve boasts a beautiful natural environment and lush vegetation. Minimal human interference and the natural advantage of a 900-meter altitude gradient have resulted in a rich local biodiversity. As of October 2025, over 1,700 species of wild animals have been discovered in the reserve, including 79 national key protected animals and 10 national first-class protected animals; and 2,077 species of wild higher plants, including 28 national key protected plants and 5 key protected plants in Guangdong Province.

The reserve constructs science popularization and education venues centered around 'one museum, two trails, and three gardens'. The 'one museum' refers to the Chebaling Nature Museum; the 'two trails' refer to the Mandarin Duck Stream Negative Ion Trail and the Ecological Civilization Education Greenway; the 'three gardens' refer to the Hugang Rare Plant Garden, Bole Rare Seedling Nursery, and Lumingtan Natural Arboretum. The Nature Museum has four floors, introducing Chebaling's overall environment, plants, birds and beasts, and fish, snakes, and insects, respectively. It has rich collections and wonderful explanations (unless you encounter a rambling guide like me). Note: Reservations for visiting the museum must be made at least one day in advance on the Chebaling official WeChat account!

The Mandarin Duck Stream Negative Ion Trail is built along the stream. Walking along it, you can enjoy the gurgling water and admire the lush trees beside it. It's like a powerful vacuum cleaner for "workplace scent," capable of washing away work and life fatigue to some extent.

On a clear night, with a telescope (dwarf3 recommended), you can enjoy one of the best national standard Class 1 night skies in Guangdong National Nature Reserve. For example, the Orion Nebula below was photographed by me on September 30 this year at the entrance of the administration office.

In conclusion, Chebaling welcomes you.
