🗿 The Niō Guardians — Kongō Rikishi from Pairi Daiza

These two monumental statues represent the Niō (仁王), also known as Kongō Rikishi (金剛力士) — the “Diamond Warriors” or “Benevolent Kings” from Japanese Buddhist tradition.

They are the protectors of temples, embodying both physical strength and spiritual power to defend the Dharma against evil spirits. The Niō always appear as a pair, symbolizing the balance between beginning and end, life and death, action and stillness:

Agyō (阿形) — mouth open, representing birth, life, and creative energy.

Ungyō (吽形) — mouth closed, representing death, completion, and inner mastery.

These two impressive figures stand at Pairi Daiza, guarding the entrance to the Island of the Rising Sun, welcoming visitors under their watchful protection.

This version was created using four photos of the original statues, carefully edited to remove the background, then converted into a 3D STL file using a generative AI model.
The result captures the powerful forms and intense expressions of these legendary guardians — ready to be brought to life through 3D printing.
