Other Issues:the blade is far too thin to connect together, I made the blades 5mm in tinkercad and am about to put it together now, also changed the orientation of the handle

Sad to hear that, but the blade is made for SLA Printing in Miniature Format. You need to scale it in the Slicer to get it nicely done. Sry for your Problems
