Description

This is a rack for the Badges of Honor that Jeep sends out that can be used to display the badges from inside the vehicle through the windows. That awkward and useless window pane on the rear doors is a great place to mount them for the 4-door model Wranglers, where you can have two racks to display a total of eight badges. The rear windshield and trunk side windows are also suitable locations, as the 2-door models don't have rear doors with that useless window pane.

Some people have reported their Badges of Honor mounted on the outside of their vehicles getting lost/stolen. With this rack you can keep the sticky fingered individuals away while still being able to display your badges.

Additional items needed:

  • 3M Dual Lock 1"x3" black adhesive fasteners, 4-pack: The models are specifically designed with 5mm stand-off distance for the side lips, which is designed to accommodate the 3M Dual Lock. I recommend purchasing the 1 x 3 inch pack that comes with four strips, which will be good for the application of one 4-slot rack or two 2-slot racks. The lips measure a little larger than 0.5 x 6 inch for the 4-slot rack, and 0.5 x 3 inch for the 2-slot rack. Just cut the Dual Lock down the middle. Or you can just get one of those really long roll of Dual Lock and just cut it to the proper length. If you have trouble finding the correct fastener, search for Scotch Extreme Interlocking Fasteners, 4 Strips, 1" x 3"
  • Alcohol wipes: To clean the surfaces where the 3M Dual Lock fasteners will be applied.
  • A good pair of scissors: To cut the fasteners. If the fasteners stick to the scissors while cutting, clean the blades with the alcohol wipes and then reattempt.

CAUTION: The VHB tape that comes affixed to the rear of the plastic plate needs to be removed. It can be peeled off easily by using your thumb to roll it off the back.

To insert the badge into the slots, you will need to insert it from the top at an angle. There are two little tabs on the sides of the each slots, and if you look at them from the side you can see that they are angled so you can slide the badge in and click it into place. The slots will fit the badges snug but not tight, with the tabs preventing the badges from falling out.

If you want to take the badges out, there are large round holes on the back of the racks where you can use your thumb to push the badge to the required angle to slide it out of the slot.

I printed mine out of ASA for UV-resistance. ABS should also work. I haven't tried PETG, but I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work. I do not recommend PLA.

After you print the model, you have to let it cool down. If you take it off the build plate immediately and try to put the badge in, it will rattle a little. Once the model cools down and shrinks a little, the tolerance will tighten up.
