  • Sterilite 32 Qt. Gasket Box x 1: Sterilite item #1933
  • ¾ Inch PVC Pipe x 1:

Description

Support frame to hold up to 8 standard 1 kg spools in a Sterilite 32 Qt gasketed storage box. The container is commonly sold at Walmart and hardware stores such as Home Depot and Canadian Tire. The foam gasket in the lid does a great job of keeping out moisture, allowing the box to maintain an internal humidity of <10% with the addition of fresh desiccant beads.

The white pipes are ¾ inch PVC pipes, which can be found in most hardware stores. The cheapest variety will suffice to hold up to 4 spools without flexing, no need to opt for the more expensive high-pressure rated pipes. The PVC pipes should be cut to 31 cm (12.2") sections, with 4 pipes used per box.

I printed this set out of translucent PETG, though I'm sure PLA would work just as well.

The support brackets slot into place along the groves and support seam at the bottom of the Sterilite bin. No glue is necessary, though you could elect to add some at the base if you want it installed permanently.

There is space under the spools for desiccant packs or loose beads, though I elected to mount desiccant baskets on the lid for easier access when regenerating them.
