Skele-Chess

A skeleton themed chess piece set, sculpted by me in Blender 3D, with about 4 iterations of different ways to match the silhouette of a classic chess set. The pawn is the base I used for the rest, adding simple crowns for the king and queen. The rook is a pile of skulls, because a fort/castle is basically a group of defenders. The knight is the upper skull of a horse. The bishop was the most tricky, I tried making hands in a ‘frustrated by king’ pose, then made some horns and finally settled on a brilliant idea of my father, kudos to him. The bishop is a skull twisted to match the normal silhouette, in a befuddled sort of vibe.

I tried to replicate the sizes and feel of the traditional Staunton chess set, and the skull was super fun to sculpt, I think I have a thing for sculpting skulls!  Two printed copies (in Black and white) sets you back about 200g of filament and 12 hours of print time. My set was printed with tree supports, cubic infill and .20 mm. Feel free to dial it further down at cost of print time. I had fun designing this, I have always wanted to make myself a chess set. Personally, I intend to make a resin casted set for myself, in a nice wooden box. If you like this model and use it, please comment with pics, I'd love to see it. For once, I can be a little certain that this model won't be having printing issues for users as long as the specs are followed (Touch wood). And for people who have had unfortunate luck with my older designs, I'm currently reworking them from the ground up for 2026.
