Description

Turkish drop spindle.

This turkish drop spindle is entirely 3D-printed. The shaft contains a tiny notch where a half-hitch can be used to secure the yarn.

The printing profile contains 3 turkish drop spindles of different sizes:

  • Small:
    • Wing length: 7 cm
    • Shaft height: 10 cm

  • Medium:
    • Wing length: 9 cm
    • Shaft height: 12 cm

  • Large:
    • Wing length: 11 cm
    • Shaft height: 14 cm

I modelled the turkish drop spindle using openscad, and have included the file for customization. However, note that I did not include error messages, informing you if a value in a parameter might be wrong. For instance, the wing length shouldn't be set to “0”. While the code currently lacks an error message to prevent this, setting the value to “0” is technically valid but will, of course, make the wing invisible.

The openscad file will generate a turkish drop spindle that is assembled. This means that you will have to separate the assembled pieces of the drop spindle in your slicing software to print it.

I was a bit hesitant to include the openscad file for customization since it feels a bit incomplete, as you are only able to download the assembled turkish drop spindle and will have to take additional steps to separate the assembled objects, and then lay them flat in order to print it. But I figured someone might put in the extra work to achieve what they want. I hope it is helpful to someone.

I'm open to any feedback and suggestions, and do ask me for help with the customization if it is confusing.
