Description

Summary

Mount for Mellow Fly DP5/D5 in old Geeetech A30 (non-Pro, -M, -T) metal case

  • Use the .3mf files, not the STL, the STL might not have the necessary cutouts and holes!! *

I replaced the original GTM32 Pro VD board of my (very old) Geeetech A30 with a Mellow Fly DP5 board and decided to use the old case.

The original board, the relay power PCB for the heat bed and the now useless display can be removed, the 230V/110V power switch and the two fans are kept and re-used. As screen replacemnt just use e.g. a KlipperScreen HDMI Touchschreen connected to your Klipper host.

As I replaced the toolhead/gantry PCB with a CAN bus board, the cable coming from the gantry/toolhead can be removed as well, the other cables are kept (endstops and x,y,z,z1 steppers, bed heating and bed thermistor). Most cables fit, you will need to crimp a few adapters and use a new, separate cable to the Z1 stepper.

As I converted the printer to direct drive, the extruder stepper is now connected to the CANbus toolhead PCB, as well as a new filament sensor (the old one is now useless).

This is a simple adapter plate that fits on the 4 metal posts in the A30 case and has 4 heat insert sockets to mount the Mellow Fly DP5, the Mellow Fly D5 shoud fit as well. Use M3x4x5mm heat inserts (M3x4.6x... or wider will not fit the sockets).

How I Designed This

I just used generic shapes/parts in OrcaSlicer to put this together.
