The MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA in Düsseldorf (Arena-Straße 1, 40474 Düsseldorf) was opened on 10.09.2004 and is the home stadium of Fortuna Düsseldorf. For football, it holds 54,600 spectators, and for concerts, up to 66,500. Notable features include a retractable, light-impermeable roof and a heated stadium interior; the roof can be moved in approximately 30 minutes. Former names: LTU Arena (2004–2009) and ESPRIT arena (2009–2018). Major events include the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 and the opening spectacle of the 2024 European Handball Championship with 53,586 spectators (world record for handball).
