Zubr-class LCAC

This is the world's largest active military hovercraft landing craft, designed by the Soviet Union/Russia, known for its massive size and powerful carrying capacity, this type of hovercraft landing craft has an overall length of 57.3 meters, a width of 25.6 meters, a height of 21.9 meters, and a maximum draft of 1.6 meters; its standard displacement is 480 tons, and its full-load displacement is 555 tons. Three massive ducted fans are the most distinctive feature of the 'Zubr' class. Driven by powerful gas turbines, these fans generate the air cushion that lifts the hull and also provide forward thrust, allowing it to 'fly' at high speeds over water and directly onto beaches.

This type of craft features a 400 square meter cargo deck with a carrying capacity of up to 150 tons. It can transport: 3 Russian-made main battle tanks (total weight approximately 150 tons) or 8 Russian-made amphibious tanks (total weight approximately 144 tons) or 10 armored vehicles and 140 soldiers (total weight approximately 131 tons).

On July 2, 2009, China and Ukraine signed a contract for the purchase of 4 such vessels, which were renamed Type 985 hovercraft landing craft.
