👻 ThermoBoo - Ghosts You Shape Yourself
A ghost that folds itself to life.
ThermoBoo is a playful experiment in material, motion, and making — a flat PLA sheet that naturally folds into a ghost when you pour hot water on it.
No pre-posed geometry or rigid surfaces — the shape forms through heat, gravity, and your hands.
Once poured, the thin sheet softens and drapes smoothly around a small forming core, creating soft, fabric-like folds with almost no visible layer lines.
The result feels oddly alive: smooth, soft folds that behave like real fabric, formed from a thin, flat sheet.
Each ghost shapes differently, each face reacts uniquely, and every maker leaves their own small fingerprint of craftsmanship.
Choose your ghost from six classic personalities — Edmund, Friedrich, Jonas, Agnes, Ernest, and Hilda — and watch it come alive in your hands. Minimal print, maximal effect — a single sheet of PLA becomes a personal craft.
And when placed on a surface, its hollow underside perfectly fits a small LED candle, turning the ghost into a glowing little spirit for your desk or window.

📦 Parts List
- Core base (for snapping and shaping)
- Flat PLA sheet (choose your ghost’s expression)
- Optional stand base (for floating or glowing display)
🖨️ Print Instructions
- Printed in PLA, except for the core, which is recommended in PETG.
- PETG withstands repeated hot water exposure; PLA works fine but may deform after multiple uses.
- No supports required for any part.
- Layer height: 0.28 mm
- Core:
- Material: PETG (preferred) or PLA
- Walls: 3
- Infill: 6% (PETG) or 15% (PLA)
- Ghosts:
- Material: PLA
- No special settings needed
💧 Forming Instructions
- Snap the flat sheet pin to the core.
- Place it in a sink or large flat container.
- Pour about 300 ml of hot water (~80 °C) evenly over the sheet. Start from the back and move towards the center of the sheet.
- Watch as it softens and folds itself by gravity, wrapping naturally around the core.
- While still warm, you have a short moment to adjust or tighten folds — each tweak changes its posture and flow.
- Remove the core once the shape holds.
- To let it stand, re-dip the bottom edge in hot water and gently press on a flat surface to form a base.
- Or, place it levitating on the stand for a lighter, floating effect.
🔄 Adjusting & Refining
After the initial forming, you can refine the shape using one of three methods:
- Pouring fix: While the ghost is still on the core, pour another wave of hot water to slightly re-soften and fine-tune the folds.
- Quick dip: Remove the ghost, dip it gently into a jar or can of hot water for a few seconds, and shape by hand.
- Full reset: For starting over, place the ghost in a wide shallow container, pour enough hot water to fully soften it, then straighten the sheet and lay it flat on a table or countertop to cool. Once reset, it’s ready to fold again.
⚠️ Safety Note
Hot water can cause burns.
Always handle with care, use heat-resistant gloves or tools if needed, and avoid direct contact with freshly boiled water.
Work on a safe surface (sink, tray, or container) and let the parts cool before touching or reshaping.
