Description

Update1: I was having trouble getting the Arachne version to upload originally due to the slice time limitations on Makerworld. I have finally adjusted it enough that Maker world doesn't reject the profile. This would be my recommended version since it print faster, has a slightly higher weight (around 600g), and should have a stronger wall structure due to the more advanced perimeter logic of Arachne.

Original Description: I have tried many airless basketballs and materials. None of them were exactly what I was looking for. So I designed my own. The bounce is just slightly better than the basketball I have for reference.

I recently got some Siraya Tech Peba Rebound 95A. This is the best material I have found for these balls. The rebound is very good when the web thickness and lattice geometry is optimized. It looks out of stock everywhere now, but Sainsmart seems to have some Peba 90A which may act similar. The issue I found during this design/optimization is Peba is lighter and has more flex than FPLA and similar Flex Basketball materials. So I tuned the shell thickness, and lattice so the bounce and weight was just right. A size 7 Basketball can range from 567-624g. I found around 580-600g in Peba filament feels good in the hand and has enough heft without feeling heavy. My print profile is set course (0.3mm layer height), this is so prints happen faster and I have found the bounce is actually improved.

Please note Bambu Studio has no Peba option, and I cannot upload custom filament types to Makerworld (they block this). So in my profile the filament type is purposely set “Incorrectly” to TPU. This means if you Sync Filament in the Bambu Studio Slicer it can change settings I have optimized. I recommend you just choose Sync Later (have to select this multiple times) so it doesn't adjust the settings (see images below). To be safe I also recommend you review the filament settings compared to what I have at the bottom of this description.

I have found standard PLA works excellent as a support material for Peba. The issue is this only works well on a dual nozzle machine. Switching back and forth from PEBA to PLA on a single nozzle machine is too wasteful and failure prone to be a good solution. So I recommend this be printed on an H2D, with 0.6mm nozzles, PLA on the left nozzle, Peba on the right nozzle, per my included profile. But please feel free to play with the settings and design if you want to experiment. See the bottom Surface image bellow using these settings.

I wanted people to be able to customize the ball to personalize it for themselves. So the 3mf design has some example SVG's debossed from the included logo pads on the Front and Back of the ball. Now you can add your own name or images directly in Bambu Studio (See Images Below)
