Plastering shield for UK 2-gang electrical backbox
Print Profile(2)

Description
This is a shield/guard I made to fit into a standard metal UK electrical backbox (2-gang) to protect it while plastering and/or decorating and helps to prevent backboxes getting filled with plaster! It can also be used if you have some filling and making good to do around electrical boxes after plastering (if your plasterer hasn't been particularly neat!) or while decorating.
It features recessed panels at the top and bottom which act as guides for cut-outs if using with backboxes which already have wiring in them. The sides have been made quite thin to reduce filament usage and also allow a certain amount of flex since the metal back boxes are often not perfectly square and can narrow off a little at the corners. It has been designed to be a push-fit and to hold in place without any fixings (or at least it does with the back boxes I have here, although it does also incorporate some screw holes to allow it to be held in place temporarily.
I've also uploaded an additional print profile for a version which features a cutout in the corner for those backboxes which have earth tabs with no clearance in the corner as this type prevents the plastering shield sitting correctly into the backbox.
Please note this is only intended for use during renovation/DIY projects, when the electrical circuits have been safely isolated and has not been designed for permanent use or on live electrical circuits/wiring.
Relatively quick to print (a little over 1hr with PLA basic).
Check out my other models for a single gang version.
I've also created a new, lightweight version which incorporates a split at the bottom allowing it to be easily installed around existing wiring without needing to disconnect the wires… https://makerworld.com/en/models/1951914-plastering-guard-for-uk-2-gang-double-back-box
It is also quicker to print, and uses less filament.
