UPDATE: Created a Wrist Rest that clips to the side of the tray. https://makerworld.com/en/models/1872988-mobile-mouse-pad-wrist-rest#profileId-2004931
Often I'm taking my kids to various activities and I'll wait in the car for them to be finished. I'd use my laptop with my backpack on the center console and an old picture book as mouse pad. Way too many times I'd let go of the mouse and it would end up in the footwell on the passenger side; and I finally decided to make something better.
This mouse pad / tray is about the biggest you can make on an X1 or P1. It is designed with a small lip around the perimeter to help keep you mouse where it is supposed to be without getting too bulky. The exposed gyroid infill underneath adds traction to soft surfaces to increase stability. It does take a long time to print due to it's size and the Hilbert Curve top surface (nearly 2 hours just for that). I experimented with other surfaces but the mouse doesn't track as well and it didn't look nearly as nice. It's only a total of a centimeter thick so it packs along nicely with your laptop in it's bag. Happy printing!
