Description

KAI T-50 Golden Eagle / FA-50 Fighting Eagle (T-50TH, FA-50PH)

Advanced Supersonic Trainer - Desk Model

The T-50 Golden Eagle family is a model of South Korea's supersonic trainer/LIFT aircraft. This low-poly design represents the base T-50 trainer, the FA-50 Fighting Eagle light combat aircraft, and popular export variants, such as the T-50TH and FA-50PH. This model is scaled for display and is designed for easy printing and assembly, making it a fantastic addition to any aviation enthusiast's collection.

Background Information

The T-50 Golden Eagle is a family of advanced, supersonic, South Korean jet trainers, light combat aircraft, and multirole light fighters developed by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) in partnership with Lockheed Martin. It holds the distinction of being South Korea's first indigenous supersonic aircraft and is internationally renowned for its highly capable FA-50 Fighting Eagle variant.

Development Highlights

The T-50 program (code-named KTX-2) began in the late 1990s to develop a cost-effective, indigenous supersonic trainer.

  • Maiden Flight: The aircraft first flew in August 2002 and entered service with the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) in 2005.
  • Platform Versatility: The base design was successfully expanded from a trainer concept to the heavily armed TA-50 Lead-in Fighter Trainer and the FA-50 Light Combat Aircraft.
  • F-16 Resemblance: The T-50 closely resembles the F-16 Fighting Falcon, sharing a similar configuration while being approximately 80% of its size.

The T-50 Family and Key Variants

The platform has seen widespread adoption, with significant variants playing critical roles:

  • T-50 Golden Eagle: The base Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT).
  • T-50B: An aerobatic variant used by the ROKAF's famous Black Eagles display team.
  • TA-50: Lead-in Fighter Trainer (LIFT) and light attack version, equipped with the EL/M-2032 fire control radar.
  • FA-50 Fighting Eagle: The advanced, multi-role Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), featuring enhanced avionics, a tactical datalink, and compatibility with modern precision-guided weapons.
    • FA-50 Block 20/70: The latest and most advanced variants incorporate features such as AESA radar, an aerial refueling probe, conformal fuel tanks, and support for Beyond-Visual-Range (BVR) missiles.

Global Operators

The T-50/FA-50 has significant export success and is currently operated by:

  • South Korea (ROKAF)
  • Indonesia
  • Iraq
  • Philippines (FA-50PH)
  • Thailand (T-50TH)
  • Poland (FA-50GF/PL) - A major European operator.
  • Malaysia (FA-50M) - Latest Block 20/70 orders.

Model Design & Assembly Notes

This design is a simplified, low-poly static display model of the T-50/FA-50 with Flexible Print Configurations

To best suit your printing goals, the model is provided in three distinct configurations:

  1. Whole Model: A single-piece print.
  2. Model with Separate Cockpit: The main body is a single piece, with the cockpit printed separately. This is the recommended option for easy dual-color printing (e.g., white fuselage/black canopy) with minimal effort.
  3. Model with Separate Cockpit and Engine: The cockpit and Engine exhaust nozzle are printed separately before final assembly.

Detailed Version Availability

A more detailed version of this aircraft model, which includes features such as Flaps, Slats, and an Antenna, is available in a separate model profile.

For those who wish to modify the model, adjust the scale, or change tolerances, STEP files are included for more customization and ease of scaling in your preferred software.
