Porsche 986 Headrest Wind Deflector Mesh Grille

Did your Porsche Boxster 986 come without its rear roll bar mesh wind deflector inserts, or maybe they blew out at autocross or on the highway? You are not alone! These new parts are over $200 on eBay for just a single left or right model. Why pay ridiculous amounts for a piece of ABS when you can 3D print them.

I commissioned and had a professional CAD scan made of these made over 10 years ago at considerable cost to print a bunch on my own. Here's the model, free for you to print and do whatever with. Including STEP and SLDPRT versions.

Obviously recommend ABS or ASA or similar. Not the easiest geometry to print I've tried many orientations and support configurations and only this one is passable, but feel free to upload more / better orientation profiles if you can get it to be more reliable. 

I'd strongly recommend using some vision miner NPA to get these to print. I coat my build plates in it for ABS/ASA. There's not a lot of contact with the plate to minimize supports and marring. It is a rather extreme orientation.

Just like the OEM part this requires a piece of sticky foam tape or similar on the tabs that react against the roll bar loops to fit in place. I could never get the design reworked enough to prevent even these from similarly blowing out under loads and Porsche eventually figured out that they should be inserted from the other direction in later models (so they don't blow out), so you should use a zip tie or two to really hold them in. I know I lost a 3D printed set 8 years ago at AutoX.
