Description

Modular Spring (1.2mm x 8mm x 20mm) - Loaded Storage Boxes – Two Sizes + Custom Inserts

Keep your small parts neatly organized with this versatile, 3D-printable storage system! Designed for electronics hobbyists, makers, and DIY enthusiasts, these modular boxes are perfect for storing SMD components, screws, nuts, bolts, and other tiny parts.

Features:

  • Two sizes included – perfect for both medium and very small components. More sizes may be added if there’s demand!

  • Printable inserts – ideal for SMD resistors, capacitors, ICs, and other tiny components to keep them separated and easily accessible.

  • Spring-loaded lids – open smoothly and close securely. Lids can be printed in transparent filament for easy identification or labeled for quick reference.

  • Modular design – boxes interlock, so you can expand and customize your storage layout as your collection grows.

  • FDM-friendly – fully optimized for 3D printing with no supports required and simple assembly.

BUY:

  • Any spring around 20 mm long and 7–9 mm in diameter will work for this design. I personally prefer the 1.2 mm thread resistance on the lid—it provides a satisfying snap and ensures it stays securely closed. I’ve also tried 0.8 mm threads, which still hold the lid shut, but the closing doesn’t have the same tactile snap.

This system combines functionality, flexibility, and a touch of fun—perfect for anyone who works with small components and wants their workspace tidy, efficient, and customizable. Whether you’re a PCB tinkerer, electronics enthusiast, or just need a practical way to organize tiny parts, these boxes are built to make your life easier.

Very nice design! I like it a lot. Unfortunately, I can only fit the individual boxes together with a lot of force. The tolerances could be larger. Or can you publish the source files? Or arrays of 1x5, 2x5, ...?

I really like the project! ❤️ However, even after calibration I’m also running into tolerance issues — both when fitting the individual containers together and with the inserts. Everything technically fits, but it’s so tight that you can’t take it apart again once assembled. I would really appreciate it if you could publish the source files, or at least provide a version with looser tolerances. ✨
