Modern Tunnel Portal for Model Railways (inspired by ICE tunnels)

This tunnel portal is inspired by modern ICE routes in Germany and adopts the clear, simple lines of current tunnel architecture.
The model is intentionally not yet entirely perfect – but it is completely sufficient for its first use on a model railway. Anyone who wishes can seamlessly integrate it into the landscape with plaster, filler, or paint, thus making the typical character of modern new tunnels even more realistic.

💡 Suggestions for Improvement & Further Development:

  • Finer structures and textures (e.g., concrete joints, emergency exit markings)
  • Variants for single- and double-track portals
  • Adaptations for different gauges
  • Additions like tunnel lighting, overhead line outlets, or side protection walls

Powered by Image-to-3D from MakerWorld (https://makerworld.com/makerlab/imageTo3d)

I would be very happy if someone takes on the idea, tries out their own adaptations and shares the results here – this way, we can develop the model step by step and improve it together.

@derbieber80 I find your design appealing and would like to use it. However, I do not have much space on my H0 layout. Therefore, I would be interested in the maximum external dimensions of the width. Also, the maximum clear height would be interesting due to the existing catenary (not yet installed in the photos) I thank you for your efforts and remain with kind regards Patrick

Looks good! Load the file and in Bambu Studio simply press s, then take the measurements on your machine and adjust, and the model will be scaled accordingly

@derbieber80 Thanks for the help, I will try it tonight, even though I don't know what they mean by pressing S. I've only had the device for about a week and only installed Bambu Studio yesterday. In short: A complete beginner. Kind regards Patrick

the model visually similar to the original but very uneven, doesn't even stand straight, I won't use it on my layout

ggf. cut off and straighten at the bottom if desired, in the original, the modern tunnel portal always has a gradient of 20 or more, vertical tunnel portals still existed in epoch III

hi I modeled this after a portal of the Cologne-Rhine-Main railway line 'Cologne-Rhine/Main high-speed line' or rather created and re-modeled it from a photo of a portal using MakerLab Pic to 3D according to Wikipedia the size of the portals should have a clear width of about 10 to 12 meters and a clear height of about 10 to 11 meters I would simply adapt this to the characteristics of the system
