Description
Simple standalone and steady solution for a popular open-source analog of AMS — BMCU 370. I did not consider existing models that mount to the printer frame due to strong vibrations. The goal of this project was to ensure the stability of the entire structure despite uneven filament distribution on the spools. The parts were designed to prevent incorrect assembly.
Features:
- Adapted for printing on A1 Mini with minimal numbers of supports
- Holder for BMCU 370C or BMCU 370X
- Wide range of supported spools – up to 1.2 kg in weight and 72 mm in width, including cardboards
- Smoothed filament angle at the BMCU input
- Vertical arrangement of spools
- Dowel with common 608 ball bearing reduce friction and improves rotation (for bearing version)
- The parts are fastened with steel bolts that are screwed into the barrel nuts M8
- Channel for hiding the BMCU cable in the middle of the central column
- Additional PTFE tube attachment for upper spools
Base with rubber feet improves stability and reduces vibrations
(Rubber feet are preferred, but can be replaced to IКЕА Stick-on floor protectors, article number 004.311.51)
Can be made in two versions: with bearing dowels or without bearing dowels.
List of materials for a simple variant, without bearing, a little shorter:
- Screw DIN933 M8x25mm - 4pcs.
- Screw ISO7380-1 M8x20mm - 2pcs.
- Nut DIN934 M8 - 6pcs.
Optional for base:
Rubber feet D17.5 - 18mm - 4pcs.
Brass Heat Threaded Insert Nut M3x5mm - 4pcs.
Plate from 1 to 4 mandatory for both versions.
Plate #5 only for bearing version
Plate #6 only for simplest version without bearings
WARNING:
Before you start printing, please read this carefully.
There are several versions of the BMCU on sale - the original BMCU370C (BLV) and modified versions.
They are easy to confuse. Modified versions contain the words "BMCU370C with Hall sensor" or "BMCU370C Updated High Torque version" in the name.
The original BMCU370C contains four mounting holes, while the modified versions have only two mounting holes, near to center.
If you have a modified version with two mounting holes, please select the appropriate print profile - "HALL 370C". The difference between the print profiles is only in the details of the BMCU holder

My advice is to use PLA filament, but not matte, and not to install pneumatic PTFE tube couplers at the BMCU input.

Useful Improvements from other makers:
- A great package of improvements from maker - Sasver
This project is suitable for improving the design of both initial prints, as well as existing Multi spooler holders.
One of the main advantages is the modification of the holder arms to ensure compatibility with project from Phil Caruso's — Auto-Rewinder Remix.
