Description
This is another one of my big projects. After finishing my last road car (BMW E91), I wanted to try something more off-road – the Ford Raptor F150 has always been one of my favorite. The finished model is 611 mm long. I really like RC cars, both commercial and DIY ones. But many of them use a lot of bought parts, and that leaves less room for your own creativity. Maybe it's just my opinion. So I decided to build an RC car that is mostly 3D printed and uses very cheap parts.
Let’s get straight to the point:

You’ll need the following to build the car:
- approximately 300x M2 x 16mm Screw
- approximately 300x M2 Nut
- 4x M3 x 10mm Screw
- 8x M3 x 20mm Screw
- 8x M3 Nylon Lock Nut
- 4x M4 x 35mm Screw
- 4x M4 Nylon Lock Nut
- 4x M4 Washer
- 9x Compression Spring, length: 25mm, wire dia: 1mm, outer dia: 12mm
- 3x 18650 Li-ion Battery
- 8x 10x15x4 Bearing
- 10x 17x26x5 Bearing
- 1x BLDC 3530 1400KV
- 1x Bidirectional ESC 50A
- 1x 3S 1A Li-Ion Battery Charger
- 1x 3S Balancer (do not use protection part of this module, wire power cables directly from battery pads OR use different balancer)
- 1x 20Kg 180º Servo
- 4x Connector XT60 (1x male, 1x female)
- 1x Arduino Nano or LGT8F328P
- 1x NRF24L01 module
- 1x 220uF 10V Capacitor
- 1x 1000uF 16V Capacitor
- 1x Prototype Board
- 1x Pin Header 2.54mm
- 1x Glue
A bit about how it was made:
Just like my previous project, my goal was to keep this build as low-cost as possible, while still making it drive well and look great. Many technical details are similar to the bmw e91 project, so I’ll just highlight the most important points here:
- Cost-effective printing: I aimed to keep the print cost low without compromising functionality or performance.
- TPU tires: Unlike the bmw e91, I used TPU filament for the tires. Silicone tires offer better grip, but for an off-road model, TPU works well and is much easier to produce. A kilogram of TPU filament cost me only 11€, and I still had plenty left over, saving even more compared to the bmw project.
- Segmented design: The car is printed in colored segments, so AMS is NOT required.
- Material options: Parts can be printed in PETG or other transparent materials, and the model includes holes for standard 3mm LEDs, allowing you to add functional lights.
- Magnetic roof: The roof is magnetic for easy battery access without disassembling the car.
- Built-in supports: The print files include built-in supports to make printing easier and reduce filament waste. However, check your model before printing and add extra supports if you think it is needed.
This project combines low cost, good performance, and a great look, making it a fun off-road RC car.
