Description

A modular, 3D-printed, mechanical character sheet & tracker for D&D 5e, Pathfinder, & other TTRPGs. V1 enables tracking the things you touch every combat round - HP + Temp HPAC & Initiative, and Spell Slots (Lv 1–4) without opening an app or shuffling paper. Deeply satisfying wheels, buttons, and clickers.

AMS required for multi color parts. 3MF includes NON-AMS profiles with cutouts and embossing that can be fill or surface painted. (I've heard the feedback, and will incorporate an updated top that will allow printing embossed, colored designs sans AMS!)

v1.0 files are free for personal use! (contact me about commercial or other uses)

Boost Me (for free)

Your boosts keep the momentum going! I am excited to release new modules, and an updated modular box so you can track every character, race, and item trait!!

Changelog

  • V1.1 (when model changes are released)
  • V1
    • Updated the print and assembly instructions to clear up some issues people had, including instructions and an image detailing how to customize your character name in the 3MFs.
    • Added 3 new print profiles that let you print each module individually, as some people wanted a quick way to just try the spell tracker.
    • No model changes released yet, although I've already incorporated some good feedback in design.

How to help (PLEASE!)

I need brutal, practical feedback from real tables, and would love to talk to you in person!

  1. Print and use the modules in a session.
  2. Leave comments below (with photos!). I love to see what you're making.
  3. Complete the 3–5 min feedback form

Contact me here or in the feedback form above, if you’re willing to take a quick call to talk to me about this project!!

Modules included in v1.0

  • HP + Temp HP: the temp HP can be used to track other things too, 0-99, or dual 0-9
  • AC & Initiative
  • Spell Slots (levels 1–4): a 2nd module will cover levels 5-9
  • Small embossed brand mark “B&B v1.0” for attribution.

Want more modules, or other variations? (coins, higher level spells, conditions, inspiration, death saves, skills)

Post a comment or tell me what you need most in the feedback form.

Why This Exists

  • Get off my phone. Built to reduce screens at the table, update stats without opening an app. Fewer taps, more play.
  • Glanceable = faster turns. Busy stats live on dials/slots you can read in a heartbeat. Tactile updates keep the game moving.
  • Table-movable trackers. Slide modules around the table to form initiative order or clusters during battle. Everyone can see key numbers at a glance.
  • Custom to your character. Mix modules (HP, AC/Init, Spells L1–4 now; Conditions/Death Saves/Inspiration next). Arrange them your way.
  • Home-printer friendly. Prints supportless on common FDM machines with forgiving tolerances. Snappy, quick assembly.
  • Durable, tactile & joyful feel. Positive detents and smooth rails aim for satisfying clicks, not flimsy widgets.
  • Clear, high-contrast UI. Windows, numerals, and icons are tuned for readability across lighting and color combos.
  • Iterates fast from feedback. This is a playtest; real table notes shape future versions. Expect rapid fixes and add-ons.

*I played D&D my entire childhood, and started again last year (I'm 43). D&D is one of the most formative things in my life. I think about it every day. I've been so thrilled to start playing again and enjoying this incredible game as an adult, and hope to contribute some awesome stuff to the community!!

Print Recommendations

Generally, these print great with all the default settings in Bambu Studio or Orca Slicer, and the included 3MF is set to go.

Change “Character Name” on the AC/Init Plate: You can customize the character name on this plate (up to 8 characters), or turn it off by setting the object to the same color as the plate.

  • Printer: Bambu A1/P1S, Prusa MK3/MK4, Ender-class ok (tested on A1)
  • Plate: Textured PEI Plate
    • I’ve tested other plates, especially for the box tops where text and icons are… I like the textured look the most, but it’s just personal
  • Nozzle: 0.4 mm
    • I’ve tried 0.2mm for top plates to get smaller text and icons.
  • Layer height: 0.2 mm
    • 0.16 mm gives crisper numerals on dials (not required)
  • Perimeters: 3; Infill: 15–25% (grid/gyroid).
  • Supports: Currently only needed for the shaft that numeric dials ride on (applied in the 3MF)
  • Material: Tested extensively with PLA (mostly Sunlu)
    • Generally looks best in Matte
    • Avoid silk on silk where there’s text to read… it’s too shiny
    • PETG works fine in a few tests also
  • Color swaps: Works great with AMS/MMU for high-contrast digits & icons.

*If you discover better settings, please share them in the comments!

Assembly notes

  • HP & AC Modules
    • Dials slide onto shaft, 4mm spacer in the middle, 2mm spacer on the ends.
    • Shaft with dials and spacers slides into box, aligned with slots on the inside of the box.
    • Top plate snaps into place (and easily snaps out with a fingernail)
  • Spell Tracker Module
    • Spring sits inside button
    • 1 button with spring slides into each slot with the protruding side of the spring against the contoured side of the slot (see image)
    • IMPORTANT NOTE:
      • Freshly printed parts will have horrible friction. Let sit overnight, then run back and forth quickly a few times. Motion will smooth out.
      • BEST MOTION: put a little wax on both sides of each spring (crayons work great!!), and then slide quickly a few times the full length of motion. You’ll never have to do this again.

  • TIGHT SLIDERS in spell tracker?
    • Apply wax to both sides of each spring for immediate use (and generally recommended). Then slide quickly a few times the full length of motion. Crayons work great, and you’ll never have to do this again.
    • Or, let new parts sit overnight to fully cure (24hrs). Yes this is a real thing with small parts that slide against each other … I still recommend applying wax for the most satisfying motion.
  • Magnets:
    • Press 6mm x 3mm magnets into the base and each box.
    • I used these magnets:
      • They are 6mm x 3mm (true measurement is 6mm x 2.75mm)

Known issues (v1.0)

  • Sliders in spell tracker need wax (try crayons(), or to sit and cure overnight for a smooth motion. This enables the best long term motion, and may just be a limitation of small 3d printed mechanics.
  • Box Tops
    • Top click mechanism (into box) can loosen over time
    • Currently prints face down, so embossed lettering won’t work
    • Face looks nicest printed against the plate, however
  • Tolerances (0.1-0.2mm) are tight for a solid, no rattle build. Some printers may struggle.

Changelog

  • v1.0 (Playtest): Initial public release: 3 core modules, 2 and 3 module basewatermark.
