Description

This is my first published project. This template allows for precise milling of Festool Domino dowels (6/8/10 mm) using a router with a 16-mm copy ring. The stop can be accurately adjusted to the material thickness using the included gauges or finely tuned by measurement. The components X1 and X2 serve as lateral stops for the right and left sides. Cutouts, as shown in the attached images, ensure secure attachment of the template. The outer holes on both sides can be used to directly screw the template in place.

Assembly

Please use PETG.

Melt the two ruthex M5 threaded inserts into the base part using a soldering iron and let them cool briefly. Then, screw the top part to the base using the M5 x 20 mm hex socket screws. Done!

How Domino Dowels Work

The principle of Domino dowels involves setting the first dowel with the “0” setting, aligning the wood flush with the side. Afterward, you can choose between the “+5” or “+7” setting. These so-called floating dowels compensate for minor measurement errors. For a detailed explanation, I recommend watching Festool’s videos on YouTube.

Milling Tip

Do not mill the dowel hole in a single pass. I recommend milling to the stop on the right and left sides first, then completing the middle section in two passes for a clean result.

Required Materials

  • Router with 16-mm copy ring
  • 2x ruthex M5 threaded inserts
  • 2x M5 x 20 mm hex socket screws
  • Spiral flute cutter 6/8/10 mm

I hope this template brings you as much joy as it did me during its development!
