Description
Pokémon Low-Poly Chess Set
Bring together the worlds of Pokémon and chess with this low-poly Pokémon themed chess set! Each piece is designed in a faceted, minimalist style while still being instantly recognizable as a beloved Pokémon. The set is portable, fun, and magnetic. Perfect for play at home or on the go.
Note: The King is no longer Mew, it is Snorlax instead.
This was done as the Mew was too fragile and unreliable to print. Photos were taken before this change.
This project includes:
- Full chess piece set (Pokémon themed)
- Magnetic board tiles
- Pokeball Themed Storage box
Printing Instructions
- Filament: PLA or PETG recommended
- Layer Height: 0.2mm for Board and Box - 0.16mm for the peices for better detail
- Infill: 15%
- Supports: Not required for most pieces (check individual STLs) - Female board tiles require supports on the joiners
Magnet Insertion
The design accommodates a total of 96 10x3mm round magnets for both the chess pieces and the board tiles. This helps keep pieces stable during play. Pauses have already been applied to the Profile.
If not using the profile and you lose the pauses:
- Slice the Plates for each of the pieces and tiles
- Scroll the layer preview to the layer the magnet hole is covered, insert a pause at the start of this layer.
- For the pieces - layer 25 (4.04mm) if using 0.16mm layers with 0.2mm first layer.
- For the tiles - layer 19 (3.8mm) if using 0.2m layers throughout.
- Insert a 10x3mm round magnet into the slots.
- Ensure the polarity is consistent for all pieces (so they stick to the board).
- Resume the print.
- The printer will seal the magnet inside as it continues.
Assembly Instructions
A tolerance test is included on the last plate (11) for you to confirm your printer's tolerances for the board joining pieces are correct.
- Chess Pieces:
- After printing, confirm all pieces have the correct magnet polarity.
- Chessboard Tiles:
- Confirm the pieces correctly magnet to the top side of every tile.
- Glue the tiles in a chess-board pattern to the bases, ensuring that the Male and Female pieces have opposite colour tiles in the inner-most corners.
- Storage Box:
- Print the outer box, inner tray, and button separately.
- Use super glue or epoxy to:
- Attach the button to the box inner tray on the side marked with a “B”. Use the faint circle outline for alignment.
- Secure the box inner to the bottom piece of the box. Make sure it is pressed all the way in until it stops.

Notes
- Take care with magnet polarity! One reversed magnet can cause pieces to repel instead of attract. A good way to ensure correct polarity is to stack the magnets and use the stack as a handle as you insert each magnet making sure not to rotate the stack.
- The set is modular—print replacements or customize Pokémon-themed swaps for certain pieces if you want variety.
