Description

This is a model of the Skyrora XL in 1:72 scale, a British small-satellite launch vehicle currently in development.

I use a stock profile with a 50 mm/s outer wall for a nice consistent finish. I find it is best to print as 3 plates because the filament swaps take too long otherwise.

If you want to print black tips on the thrusters (looks good) then use the plates with the modifiers. If you just paint the bottom of them black it fails as there is nothing to stick to as it is an overhang. The filament needed to go into the model to stop it moving, hence the modifiers.

There is a version with Skyrora's Logo and the name text but it dramatically increases print time. I've made them but I haven't printed them myself.

The three parts need to be glued together, a modelling plastic cement (best) or superglue is fine. There rocket motor plate rests in place and ideally a fine nozzle runs glue around the perimeter, the top just glues on and there is a ridge and notch to aid alignment.

I used a Bambu P1S and the following filament as I had them but I've picked some Bambu ones in the recommendation that look right.

  • ESUN PLA+ Black
  • ESUN PLA+ White
  • ESUN PLA+ Silver Silk
  • SUNLU PLA High Speed Blue

Note: This model is in no way endorsed by Skyrora, just a hobby model from a British space fan.
