Description

**Quick video rundown of the build is below!

After making a GameBoy Advance focused Macro case (https://makerworld.com/en/models/606553-macrosos-3d-printable-gameboy-ds-lite-macro-case) and loving it, I decided to make another version with more features!

  • NO stock self-threading hardware (tiny and strip easily)
  • NO battery door (I rarely swap batteries)
  • NO supports needed
  • NO special screen lens needed
  • Uses M2 nuts and bolts to hold the case together
  • Reuses stock speaker
  • Super pocketable with no protruding cartrages!
  • Keeps R4 card slot for cheap ROM library storage
  • Moves wrist strap to lower right side so it can actually be worn when using the Macro
  • Has a unique look with a bunch of color combinations

You will need a few parts to complete the build:

Optionally:

🛟 If you are interested in buying a pre-built console, check my store at https://store.3dprintsos.com for stock.

🛟Grab components at 10% OFF: https://handheldlegend.com/3DPRINTSOS - 10% OFFCode: 3DPRINTSOS

**SCREEN SWITCHING FUNCTION:
In order to get screens switching working, you need to use this tutorial to get a modified firmware onto your DS Lite. Huge thanks to Facelesstech. https://facelesstech.wordpress.com/2021/06/20/ds-lite-screen-switching-mod/

I am only using pin P10 on one side of the switch and a ground on the other side.

It's very beautiful. Printing and assembly weren't difficult, but as some have complained, the keycaps are too shallow. Perhaps making the keycaps slightly indented would make them much easier to press, although I feel there's a slight play in the keycaps right now. I'm testing and fixing that. If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll upload the model.

Thank you! I actually just made some and printed them in FDM and Resin. Finally got the profiles how I want them. I’ll add them to a separate post since they can be used on other cases too. ;) sooon!

They are shallow. No doubt about it. I’ve tried a bunch of different ways to do it but all of them involved MUCH more complex printing. Now, im so used to it, when I pickup another console, it seems odd. haha Thank you for sharing the build! Love seeing them.

Finally had a chance to put this together. The board is from an old "GBA Macro" I made years ago with filler and spray-paint. This one had the DS card slot deleted completely. I have another one that was half-done somewhere that I'll use to finish it. The fit is great. The buttons are a little bit too recessed IMO but are useable. Of course, I got the most badly labelled third party buttons ever. The filament is "iSANGHU Glitter Clear Sky Blue Transparent" PLA+. It looks pretty close to a Crystal cartridge IRL.

This is an awesome modle :D and it printed flawlessly ^^ I also decided to solder in a usb c poert for charging. i love the idea of implementing a switch for swapping the screen. I used Bambulab Matt PLA in black wite and red. Only the buttons need to be swappt in future, to match the aesthetics. i was thinking about designing a Dust cover for the GBA slot, if there isn't already one ^^

Glad you like it. Happy to see others enjoying it as much as me. I need to post the updated buttons. They make it even better. :)

How do the nuts and bolts actually fit in? I have built one but havent put screws in. The DPad also seems to sit a little shallow but i think that would sort itself out when the case is tightened.

There are “channels” that are designed to hold M2 nuts. You have to “slide” them under the tabs and then use M2x10 to hold the case together.

That is so awesome. I have a couple of "GBA Macros" I made a few years ago, one of which I never finished. Time for a rebuild.
