Montessori Counting Rods 1–10 (3D-printed)

Description

These Montessori counting rods are a classic learning material for elementary school and help children playfully understand numbers and quantities from 1 to 10

Each rod consists of strung together 1 cm³ cubes

• Rod 1 is 1 cm long,
• Rod 7 is 7 cm long,
• … up to rod 10 with a length of 10 cm.

This way, children can see, touch, and compare numbers. They learn:

• the number sequence from 1–10,
• quantity comprehension through length differences,
• first arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, number decomposition).

The STL files are available in two variants:

• all rods in one print job
• each rod individually

⚠️ Note: As some rods are very small, there is a risk of choking. The material is therefore only suitable for children of elementary school age and older and under supervision

Montessori Colors 1–10

Traditionally, the counting rods are color-coded to make learning even more visual:

Recommended Print Quantities (per rod)

• Rod 1 (red): 10 pieces
• Rod 2 (green): 5 pieces
• Rod 3 (pink): 3 pieces
• Rod 4 (yellow): 2 pieces
• Rod 5 (light blue): 2 pieces
• Rod 6 (purple): 1 piece
• Rod 7 (white): 1 piece
• Rod 8 (brown): 1 piece
• Rod 9 (dark blue): 1 piece
• Rod 10 (gold): 1 piece

This compilation allows you to form every number from 1 to 10 (e.g., 8 = 8; 8 = 5+3; 8 = 4+4; 8 = 2+2+2+2 etc.), as you have enough small units (especially the 1s and 2s) to supplement as needed

Note on Teaching Scenarios

• If you want to show several different decompositions simultaneously side by side (e.g., teacher shows 4+4 and student simultaneously lays out 3+5), or have several children work at the same time, then I recommend 2 sets of these quantities or alternatively increasing the number of 1s and 2s (e.g., 15×1 and 8×2).
