Hi! I'm excited to present the titular submarine from the movie The Hunt for Red October.

I’ve been asked to make this model multiple times after posting my historic Typhoon-class submarine, so here it is!

The model is designed in 1:500 scale, based on the Typhoon-class submarine.

It features moving missile hatches, front rudders that can retract into the hull, and R-39 SLBMs that fit inside the launch tubes.

For extra detail, I used a white marker to highlight the torpedo tubes and the caterpillar drive hatches.

You can scale it to your preferred size by uniformly scaling all parts using this formula:

S = (500 × 100) ÷ X

Where:

  • S = scale you enter in your slicer
  • X = your desired real-world scale (e.g., 1:700 → X = 700)

If you want the historic version you can find it here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1688401-typhoon-class-nuclear-submarine-1-500#profileId-1789480

Edit 1:

Added the outlets of caterpillar drive.

If you print my models, please share photos in the comments! It really helps with the algorithm!
