Description

This design allows for the direct integration of the Orbiter extruder's filament sensor into a BMG / DDG extruder. This eliminates the need for external brackets or sensors, resulting in a more compact and tidy setup.

Key Features

  • Integration: The design combines the sensor and the extruder into a single unit.
  • Space Saving: Optimizes space in direct drive hotend configurations.
  • Aesthetics: Contributes to a clean, professional finish for the printer.
  • Ease of Assembly

Commercial components

  • 1 unit - Orbiter filament sensor V1.5
  • 1 unit - Screw DIN 7380 M3x6
  • 1 unit - Insert Nuts M3xD4.6xL4.0 (only insert nut version)
  • 25mm - PTFE OD4 ID2

In the orbiter projects, you can find all the information regarding the sensor firmware configuration as well as the installation video (the mount corresponds to the Orbiter sensor, but the assembly would be the same for this design)

The following shows how to assemble the set on our BMG extruder:

  1. We place the PTFE tube in the extruder and cut it so that it extends 5mm past the fitting

  2. After mounting the PCB in the housing according to the LDO video, we place the assembly on our BMG.

  3. We secure the assembly to the extruder with the clip; this locks the PTFE fitting and holds the sensor assembly with the M3x6 screw.

Enjoy it
