I created these bipod/tripod supports to use as a rest for my rifle. There are already much more aesthetically pleasing models than mine, but I wanted to design a more compact and functional one for 3D printing, so I could have it in a couple of hours and use little material. Printed in PLA for convenience, it doesn't require supports or special profiles; the ones in the photo are standard 0.20 with a 0.4 nozzle in generic PLA.

 

M4 nuts and screws are required, recommended:

  • 8 M4 nuts
  • 2 M4 x 12 screws
  • 6 M4 x 16/20 screws

 

The shape is quite simple with a reduced surface area; they are not suitable as firing supports (I use them but on a free-sale air rifle with little recoil), but rather for various rifle adjustment and cleaning tasks. Above all, I wanted them to be printable simply and quickly, so as to obtain them without tying up the printer for hours and hours.

 

They consist of a central tripod with a height-adjustable axis, available in multiple sizes, topped with a fork that slots in and can be interchanged as desired. The base is equipped with three adjustable feet to achieve a perfect level surface for precise adjustments.

For assembly, insert the bolts into the recesses (one in each leg of the base and one in the cylinder near the hole). They should be inserted by pressing firmly so they don't come out of their seat, using a screwdriver and a small hammer. The wheels, on the other hand, are drilled to the limit for screwing the M4 screws all the way in so they don't spin freely. If not, I recommend a drop of glue to hold them in place so you can screw and unscrew directly by acting on the wheel/feet.

Under the feet, I glued felt pads of the right size to reduce slipping on smooth surfaces and provide more friction.

The flattened part of the cylinder where the height adjustment screw is fastened could be reinforced with a thin glued metal plate, so that the screw does not cut into and break the surface. Otherwise, just tighten it until it stops without overdoing it, and tested on my rifle, it easily holds about 3.5kg.

 

I arranged all the parts on a single plate to make printing quick; if you want to print them in different contrasting colors, I have also included the individual files to be placed as desired.

 

If there are any problems or suggestions, feel free to write to me. The forks are also created in a standard rifle shape, but they can be custom-designed for your own rifle; just create the slightly conical joint so that it fits into the cylinder without play.
