High Quality Printable 8mm Ball for Marble Runs and Roll Mazes (e.g. Roll Hexfinity)

If you don’t already have 8mm steel balls—or just want more balls, fast—this high-quality printable 8mm sphere is the most reliable and efficient solution for Roll Hexfinity or any 8mm-compatible roll maze system. Print one or dozens on one plate without worries or waste.

Perfectly printing a true sphere is tricky business on a 3D printer. So I took a different approach: This ball is printed in two separate hemispheres with a precision-fit internal plug that locks them together.

It’s a super-efficient way to stock up on balls for testing, prototyping, or just having a whole swarm of rolling fun.

Print Tips

Included are 1x and 10x ball print-profiles:

• 0.08mm UltraFine layer height with a standard 0.4mm nozzle — the thinner the layer lines, the better the rolling performance
• No supports, No brims
• No AMS: print one batch in one color, then print again in another color, assemble!
• Works great with PLA or PETG
• Texture plate recommended, recently cleaned with soap and water and fully dry 
  (though this model is super reliable, so you shouldn't have much trouble)

Pro Tip: To print N balls in one go in Bambu Handy, select the 1-ball profile and then set the number of copies you want to print.

Assembly Tips

While you can assemble a ball with your thumbs, I recommend uisng the hex assembly tool.

1. Insert the plug into the smaller hole.
2. Press one hemisphere onto the plug.
3. Remove the plug+hemisphere from the hole and place it upside down on the larger hole
4. Place the other hemisphere on top of the plug
5. Use the other assembly tool to squeeze the hemispheres together

A Note on Performance

Let’s be honest: steel balls are still the gold standard. Their weight makes them roll smoother and more consistently through mazes. But these printable balls roll surprisingly well, especially when printed with fine layer lines. They’re perfect for:
