Dooms Day PC Power Button

After reorganizing my desk and finding my PC power button hard to reach, I discovered an external keyboard key that could be wired in its place. One thing led to another… and the Doomsday Power Button was born.

This 3D-printed design is a functional “big red button” with multiple build options:

• 3 LED Version – For motherboards with BIOS support for dual power LEDs.
  • Functionality shown in the linked video below
  • Must be enabled in Bios
• 2 LED Version – For boards with a single power LED.
  • Red LEDs will blink when keys are activated and PC is asleep, changing to solid when it is awake
• No-Solder Version – For those who just want the aesthetics without extra wiring.
  • LEDs will be non-functional

Note: Oddly, the polarity on the Amazon LEDs I used doesn't seem to matter. That's the purpose of the addition diodes in the wiring diagram.

No matter the option, the big red button itself works as your PC’s power button. The extra keys, switches, and LEDs can be wired for full functionality or left as decorative details.

Build Overview:

1. Print all pieces.
2. Test fit the hardware (list included).
3. Wire following the included diagram (if using LEDs/switches).
4. Assemble: screw the backing with M3 screws, glue the red button parts with gel superglue, glue in the keycap (minimal glue), and attach the black ring to the base.
5. Let everything cure before final assembly.
