Summary
Want the full collection of air-to-air missiles? In movies, shows, and games (and real life naturally) pilots say "Fox 1" or "Fox 2" or "Fox 3" before firing a missile. This collection shows the most common missile they fire for all 3.
- Fox 1 - Semi-active radar homing missile, like the AIM-7 Sparrow – these missiles still require the radar onboard the jet to guide the missile to its target.
- Fox 2 - "Heat seeking" missile, like the AIM-9 Sidewinder, uses infrared guidance to lock on to a target's heat signature.
- Fox 3 - Active radar homing missile, like the AIM-120 AMRAAM, is similar to a Fox 1, but it has its own radar guidance and doesn't require the jet to keep a lock, its “fire and forget”.
