Description
Notre-Dame de la Garde Basilica (Marseille, France)
A symbol of Marseille, the Basilica of Notre-Dame de la Garde stands on the highest natural point in the city. Affectionately known by locals as "La Bonne Mère" (The Good Mother), the basilica watches over sailors, fishermen, and the city's inhabitants, offering protection and solace.
It was designed by Henri-Jacques Espérandieu and consecrated in 1864. Its style is a beautiful blend of Romanesque and Byzantine influences, characterised by its intricate patterns, domes, and coloured stonework. The contrast between the alternating bands of green and white limestone gives it a unique and unforgettable appearance.
The original model was made way back using sketchup to populate google earth, it relied heavily on photos instead of actual 3d details, and wasn't built with 3d printing in mind (pretty much nothing was manifold). Had to remodel or retouch most of the building, the environment didn't require as much.
I only printed it once, about 120mm diameter on an A1 mini, and therefore lost some fine details. Naturally with this sort of prints, the bigger the more detailed.
Feel free to toy around with thinner layers and hotends.
A single support is located the drawbridge to avoid sagging.
