Description

V2 Now Available

This TPU spool riser is designed for the AMS HT to reduce spool resistance and improve extrusion consistency. The spool is held just above the AMS HT’s base, supported only by a roller. The roller itself is not printed - instead, it reuses the AMS HT’s back roller, which can be easily removed and fitted into the stand. The stand slots neatly into the AMS HT using the same secure mounting shape I developed for my desiccant storage unit design. While the concept was inspired by another model, this is an original design.

Boost Me (for free)

I would really appreciate a boost if you can afford it. Thank you

Key Features

  • Reuses AMS HT back roller – no extra roller printing required, simply transfer the existing one.
  • Spool lifted off AMS HT base – reduces drag and friction by supporting the spool above the surface.
  • Secure AMS HT fit – integrates seamlessly using a proven mounting shape.
  • Compatibility tested – works with spools around 56 mm internal diameter and ~200 mm external diameter. Tested with brands such as Overture, Bambu Labs, and Creality.
  • Dry whilst printing - This design allows you to print TPU whilst making use of the AMS HTs drying function. Just ensure you'you're printing out of the dedicated TPU port and that the model has been printed in a material with a heat deflection temperature above that of the drying temperature of TPU (~75°C).

Key Benefits

  • Reduced spool resistance → smoother, more reliable extrusion
  • Less under-extrusion → improved weight and consistency
  • No extra parts required → uses the existing AMS HT roller
  • Easy installation → quick fit with no modifications

Assembly Instructions

  1. Remove the rear roller from the AMS HT.
  2. Insert the TPU spool riser design into place.
  3. Place the rear roller through the TPU spool and slot both into the riser.
  4. Follow the recommended TPU setup instructions as outlined on the Bambu Lab Wiki to begin printing.

Compatibility

Confirmed compatible with: Bambu Lab, Creality, Elegoo, Overture, and Flashforge spools. Tested spools had internal diameters between 52–56 mm (56 mm most common) and external diameters around 200 mm. Spools with similar dimensions should also be compatible.

Note: I only own Bambu Lab TPU. Compatibility with other brands was tested using different filament types, not TPU. I’m assuming spool dimensions are consistent across materials from the same brand.

Updates

  • V1.1 (14/11/2025) - Inlet saver added to the model. While not essential to the function of the TPU spool riser, it does provide additional stability to the model. It also offers the added benefit of protecting the AMS HT’s inlet during regular (non-TPU) operation, should you choose to leave the model within the AMS HT.
  • 17/11/2025 - Print profiles added that utilise HIPS as the support interface.
