Magnetic Chessboard – 48 x 48 cm
A large 3D-printed magnetic chessboard (48 x 48 cm), perfect for playing with magnetized pieces.
Features:
- Dimensions: 48 x 48 cm – 55 mm squares (between standard sizes 5 and 6).
- Modular construction: the board is divided into 4 identical parts, which assemble with magnets.
- Two-color printing:
- Monochrome PLA board.
- Two-color PLA checkerboard (to be glued onto the board).
- You need to print 4 boards + 4 checkerboards to get the complete chessboard.
⚠️ Note: the assembly of the checkerboard onto the board is not identical for all 4 parts (to respect the alternation of squares). Check the photos carefully before gluing.
Required Magnets:
- 24 small magnets Ø 5 x 1 mm → to fix the 4 parts together.
- 64 magnets Ø 8 x 3 mm → 1 per square to hold the pieces.
👉 Make sure to check the orientation of the magnets during assembly, otherwise the parts will repel each other (same for the squares).
Chess Pieces:
- Based on an existing model.
- Each piece is modified with a Ø 8.2 x 3.1 mm hole to insert a magnet (be aware you'll need 32 more magnets in this case).
- For my part, I used the classic but very beautiful design by @kevr102 : link
Options:
- Spaces are provided to add letters and numbers (columns and rows), maybe in a future version.
- Possibility to customize the design in your slicer.
