Description

These are upgrade for the 3dpany C1 filament extruder. The hopper that came with the extruder was just a funnel and the neck of it was skinnier than the extrude feed hole. This caused a bottleneck and restriction to flow. Especially with recycled materials. So I designed a new hopper that maximized the diameter of the neck. The other problem I wanted to solve was being able to remove the hopper while keeping any remaining pellets contained in the hopper. I achieved this with a slide key that insert from the side of the hopper neck and blocks flow. Allowing the hopper to be removed without spilling pellets. Print the hopper with no supports, I designed supports in the model for the key slot. Those can be removed with a small knife. I made a tunnel to bridge the gap inside of the C1 from the shell to the feed screw, as their design relied on the funnel. If the funnel was removed with pellets still inside, they would spill out into the machine. This is printed out of ABS to withstand the heat. Next, I wanted to improve flow consistency when extruding recycled materials. So, I made a mixing screw and motor mount. These I printed out of PLA, however the screw did twist a little due to heat creep. But has since worked fine. To avoid the twist, you can print it out of PETG. I used a simple turntable motor to power it and used M4 heat set inserts for the motor mount.
