Description

Laser Engraving Filter Box

I designed and built a custom filter box that can holds up to 3 × Kenmore EF-2 86880 HEPA cartridges plus an activated charcoal filter at the end or where you want to place it inside the box. Added holes for brass threaded insert too.
I use vacuum tubing 40mm. It also fits 40mm tubes.

The idea came from needing a simple and affordable way to capture glass dust and fumes during UV laser engraving. It may also works well with CO₂ galvo engravers or other small desktop laser setups.

  • 3-stage HEPA setup catches fine glass particles and dust
  • Activated charcoal stage helps reduce odors and VOCs
  • Uses easily available EF-2 86880 vacuum filters
  • Modular design — filters can be swapped or stacked depending on the job

This project is meant as a DIY air cleaning solution for makers working with materials that create fine dust and fumes.

Safety Note: Glass dust and laser fumes can be hazardous. Always ensure proper ventilation, wear protective equipment when handling used filters, and dispose of them safely.
