Description
Flux Capacitor Shell – EcoFlow RAPID Pro X | Back to the Future 40th Anniversary Edition
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Back to the Future, I turned the EcoFlow RAPID Pro X into a real Flux Capacitor. A modular shell that combines portable power with pop-culture imagination: because energy is not just useful — it’s creative.
This design is inspired by the legendary Flux Capacitor, the beating heart of the time-traveling DeLorean.
A symbol of limitless energy and imagination, reimagined for the brand-new EcoFlow RAPID Pro X.
🔹 Design: modular shell with a front panel echoing the original movie model (scaled to fit the official EcoFlow files).
🔹 Details: iconic red label “DISCONNECT BEFORE DRIVE,” recreated with emboss-style lettering (Impact Label font).
🔹 Compatibility: all 3 USB-C ports on top and the pogo-pin connector on the bottom are preserved, as required.
🔹 Versatility: works with the standalone power bank and with magnetic add-ons (Retractable Cable block or Apple Watch charger).
🔹 Extra: LED to simulate the Flux Capacitor glow.
In 2025, marking 40 years since the film’s release, this project is my tribute to a saga that proved: energy is also imagination.
🔧 Important Tips
The iconic “DISCONNECT BEFORE DRIVE” label was not made with an embossing machine.
Quick way to recreate it:
- Print on paper (PDF attached - photo paper works best for vivid colors).
- Apply transparent tape on top to simulate the glossy protective finish.
- Add double-sided tape on the back to attach it to the shell.
- Cut it
Result: a faithful label look that is simple and fast to make.

Bill of Materials (BOM)
- M2x10 Flat Head Screws x 5
- M2x8 flat Head Screws x 2
- Power Distribution Board x 1 *
- COB LED Strip 100x1mm x 3
- 2mm clear acrylic panel size 64 × 110mm
* For simplicity of assembly, a Bambulab Power Distribution Board is currently used. When the EcoFlow power bank becomes available, a better integration with USB-C power input will be evaluated. This could be done by replacing the USB-A connector with USB-C, or ideally incorporating a female USB-C port into the main shell to allow power from any USB cable. Another option could be using EcoFlow’s retractable cable accessory.
The yellow cable detail can be recreated using a simple piece of yellow filament (leftover from 3D printing) or alternatively with a 22AWG electronic wire.
Once fully assembled, the base can be secured either with a small piece of filament used as a pin, or with a flat head M3 self-tapping screw.
