Description
Intro
After my utter incredulity at the failure of our Aldi/Stirling 8kg (2025) heat pump dryer (SHPD800W) to come with a lower filter, and seeing the rapid build-up of lint on the heat exchanger that was getting past the door filter, I designed this to help ensure it lives and long and healthy life of actually drying clothes.
Heat exchangers clogged with lint is the top reason I read of perfectly good heat pump dryers being financially written off. What's even more frustrating is that this model appears designed to accept a filter in this space, but it doesn't come with one and you can't buy one.
As this dryer is rebadged under several other brands such as Esatto, hopefully this will prove more broadly useful to anyone who has the same dryer under different brands. Please let me know other brands/models if you find out.
Usage
The filter frame fits in the space snugly, and the 'feet' ensure it remains pushed in when the lower cover is fitted. The fit is almost snug enough to not need those arms, but I didn't like the thought of it popping out while out-of-sight.
Maintenance
Apply common sense - it will need cleaning to stay in top condition. Vacuum the filter every 10 loads or so and wash it if needed. I recommend only buying filter material that is made for the heat and moisture of a heat pump dryer. Replace the filter if it starts to degrade. If you see a space around the filter housing that air can bypass the filter material, consider adding a bit of adhesive padding (ensuring it can't get sucked further into the machine).
Printing
Requires a build volume of 235mm x 122mm x 90mm.
A 'template' is included for cutting out the filter material.
I have been printing with PETG and have had prototypes in use for the past several months without issue. PLA might not be ideal in the heat.
Filter Material
You will need a 20mm thick filter that can be cut to at least 211mm x 102mm (210.2mm x 101.2mm x 19mm are the exact internal dimensions for the filter, but it's good to have a little extra to ensure it squishes down tightly with no gaps. I cut down [https://www.amazon.com.au/Walquicks-Compatible-ANH-628504-ANH-810183-Condenser/dp/B0D3ZSCDJ1](this filter from Amazon).
Design
Designed with LAD (L-is-the-first-letter-of-the-toy-that-can't-be-named Aided Design) and OnShape, printed on a Snapmaker A250.
Sharing
You are welcome to tweak this or sell prints, however you MUST credit me and link back to this page. Otherwise, the goal of this project is simply to reduce how many of these otherwise perfectly good dryers end up as scrap due to sellers cheaping out on the included parts. If you can help me do that, great.
