A bradawl is a pointed hand tool used by woodworkers and other craftspeople to make small, precise indentations or pilot holes in materials like wood, leather, and soft plastics before inserting a nail or screw. These indentations prevent wood from splitting and guide screws or nails, ensuring a straight and clean finish in projects. Bradawls often feature a comfortable soft-grip handle and come with various pointed ends, including flat, tapered, chisel, or square shapes, with the tapered square tip designed for faster penetration by continuously reaming the material
