Description

RV Sliding Door Floor Guide (Customizable)

This floor guide was designed to solve an ongoing frustration with the flimsy stock wall-mounted guide in my RV. The original guide would slip outward, especially when driving, and was not tall enough to reliably restrain the door.

This model was designed for RV sliding “barn” doors, but is suitable for any sliding door with similar geometry. PLA should work well, but print with PETG if you are worried about high temperatures during RV storage.  All of the illustrated examples are PETG.

The model is parametric, so you can tailor it to your installation:

  • Enter wall-to-door distance/gap in mm (default is 19mm).
  • Enter door thickness in mm (default is 36mm).
  • The model automatically adds 1 mm clearance on each side of the door.

This guide is easy to mount with 1" screws to the floor.  It tall enough to hold the door moving down the road, as well as when sliding it open and closed.  Optionally apply glide tape to the inner sides if you’re concerned about scratching the door.

  • Tall guide walls securely capture the door.
  • Accessible screw locations—no need to remove the door in many cases.
  • Symmetric for doors sliding in either direction.
  • Solid sleeves around screw holes to resist crushing.
  • Flange lip covers the old screw holes left when removing the wall-mounted factory guide.
  • Perfect for RV sliding barn doors or other similar doors.
  • Designed-in supports so the part prints at 45 degrees without slicer-generated supports.
  • Includes easily removed aprons to support adhesion and resist warping when printing with PETG.
  • Mildly fuzzy surfaces to hide layer lines.
  • Optimized to print at a 45° orientation:
    • Increases layer adhesion for greater strength on the outer wall.
    • Eliminates the effect of layer lines on large-radius fillets.
    • No need for variable layer height.
    • Allows fuzzy skin on “top” surfaces.
    • Eliminates overhang issues.
