The EasySlider TUSH
I've been running the original TUSH (The Ultimate Spool Holder) with one of my own quick n dirty mods for several years now, and have put thousands of metres of filament through it with no issues of spools falling off or similar.
After looking around I wasn't seeing another one I liked with my few minimalistic requirements, so … I finally got round to recreating the original TUSH, giving it a slightly more modern look, keeping it quick, clean and simple to print, and of course also adding the mods (I think) it needs:
- Quick EasySlider spool-width-adjustment-rails to fit any standard size of spool and that keep things nice n parallel
- Secure sides that can't pop open / off the bearings mid-print
- Assembly holds itself together as a single unit making it easy to move it around on top of enclosure / workbench / desk / shelves / etc
BOM:
- 4x M3x4mm heat inserts
- up to 5.7mm HI should work but you might have to tidy things or open the holes up
- 4x M3x10mm hex or similar bolts
- M3x8mm should work, just not as much thread to hold the sides together
- 4x 6088 (skater) bearings
How To - (pretty simple really - in case anyone needs it):
- Print 1 of each .stl file
- Optimised design for quick, clean and easy prints - no supports, brims etc
- 0.24mm layer, 25% infill, PLA/PETG/ASA/ … whatever you like (not flex?!)
- Orient each piece with flat sides down and sticky out bits up (usual stuff here)
- The 2x sides with the extra “sticky out bits” (technical term) screw together with 2x bearings sandwiched in between
- Check hole sizes, heat inserts obviously go in the bigger hole
- The 2x sides with cutouts go together and sandwich the “rail” piece plus the 2x remaining bearings
- Slide the two pieces you now have together on the rail and you are good to go!
TOP TIPS:
- If you find your bearings are too quick and you need a "clutch" mechanism, simply push the sides of EasySlider TUSH up against the spool on one or both sides, the extra friction will stop it spinning too fast and looping off loads of filament.
- If you have rough edges on the rails or they are too tight and are not going together / moving freely, then grab some sand paper and sand the rail edges until you get the right amount of movement you want.
