Description

Need a weapon to fight against the deceptions? How about a classic Ion Blaster?

This one is mostly G1 inspired. The one fron the show is, for obvious reasons, very simple in its design, so I took inspiration from various toys, as well as a bit of creative interpretations.

Udate 24.09.2025: Updated the files as there was a slight deformation of the mesh for Part 2.

Printing:

There are six parts to print, four main Parts, as well as the grip and what I'll call the magazine. Printing all at 0.16 layer height and 10% infill, printing will take about 20 hours and 400 grams of filament

Some of the parts require supports but I did a lot of manual support panting, so only regions that are really need support are supported, making for quick and easy removal.

Using a smooth build plate will result in a cleaner looking print for some areas.

Assembly:

Assembly is very straightforward, start by glueing the magazine and grip to Part 3:

Then assemble all the main parts in order. The connectors are shaped so you pretty much can't assemble them wrong.

Congrats! now you have your very own Ion Blaster!

A1 mini:

I've added a profile for the A1 mini. To make it fit, I had to cut Part 3 again and with no perfect place to do so you might get a slight seam line, but it shouldn't be too bad. Simply assemble Part3 before the rest like so:

Scale:

The finished Blaster is about 50 cm long.

I've scaled it so it's roughly the same as is in the show, but human scale obviously. It's actually a pretty small weapon, so if you'd like it a little bit bigger just print the125% version, which is a little over 60 cm.

Filament:

I used anycubic black metal PLA filament, but any silk black or metallic looking filament could look very nice as well. Sometimes the Blaster is also depicted as silver/grey, so any grey silk/metallic filament should work just fine.

All that being said, happy printing!
