Filament Poop & Support Sorting Station (Funnel + Bag Clamp System)
What it is
A universal, screw-lock sorting chute for filament scraps and support material. Pass the funnel through a hole in any box lid/plate, screw the Bottomscrew from underneath to lock it, and use the Bagscrew as a clamp ring to secure a bag inside for clean, sorted disposal. Includes a version with an integrated name-tag plate so you can label each chute (PLA, PETG, ABS, etc.).
Versions included
- Funnel (standard)
- Funnel with tag plate (needs light supports)
- Bottomscrew (bottom cap / lock nut)
- Bagscrew (bag clamp ring)
- Optional blank name tag (slides into tag plate)
Designed size (original)
- Overall height (assembled): 80 mm
- Funnel outside Ø: 140 mm
- Throat/inside Ø: 70 mm
- Thread OD (for lid hole planning): 78 mm
- Recommended lid hole: [Thread OD + 0.5] mm = 80 mm
Mini version
- Included 54% scale set (fits smaller boxes).
- Overall Hight: 45 mm
- Funnel outside Ø: 75mm
- Throat/inside Ø: 38mm
- Thread OD (for lid hole planning): 43mm
- Recommended lid hole: (Thread OD + 0.5)mm = 45mm
- Note: Thread clearances shrink when scaling—see Print Notes.
Print Notes (PLA, 0.4 mm nozzle)
- Layer height: 0.20 mm (0.16 mm if you want cleaner threads or for 54% scale version)
- Walls/Perimeters: 2
- Top/Bottom: ~1.0–1.2 mm
- Infill: 7–20% gyroid
- Cooling: 100% from layer 3
- Seam: Avoid on thread faces
- Orientation: Print threads vertical (Z-up) on all threaded parts
- Supports:
- Standard funnel: none
- Tag-plate funnel: Normal/snugg only under the plate and stop edge; block threads with under 22 Degrees support
Thread fit tips (already tuned in my Fusion model)
- PLA radial clearance target: ~0.12–0.15 mm per side
- For the 54% scale set I modeled extra clearance before scaling so it still screws smoothly. If your printer runs tight, try slicer XY compensation (internal −0.05 to −0.10 mm) or slow external perimeters (~20–25 mm/s).
- Add/keep a 0.5–1.0 mm chamfer at thread starts to avoid cross-threading.
Assembly
- Cut the lid hole to 80 mm (Thread OD + ~0.5 mm).
- Insert funnel from the top.
- From underneath, place the bag through the Bagscrew ring, fold the bag’s rim over the ring edge, then screw the Bagscrew onto the Bottomscrew (or directly under the funnel if that’s your preferred sequence).
- If using the tag version, slide a printed name tag into the plate and label (PLA/PETG/ABS/“Support” etc.).
- Done—scraps fall straight into the bag.
- Tagplate can be glued to top of funnel, or nametag can be heated slightly and bend inside the funnel and glues in as well (photo ilustrated)

Scaling
- Scale all mating parts together so the threads still match.
- For different box sizes, scale uniformly (X=Y=Z).
- Re-measure the Thread OD after scaling to pick your new lid hole.
Materials & Tools
- PLA (recommended), PETG also works
- A box with a lid/plate
- Bag: any small trash bag or liner that fits your box
- Step drill / hole saw / CNC / printed template to cut the lid hole
